Santorini - Day 2

I dub this day, the day of the tourist...

The #4Girls3Destinations crew woke up early for our island bus tour we booked at the Dana Villa's reception desk.

The first stop was a small village - not a tourist area - and walked the streets. November 2nd is "Name Day" and everyone goes to the church to celebrate (and lest be honest - grab some of the free food).

Our next stop were the Akrotiri (Ακρωτήρι) ruins. The settlement was destroyed by the Theran eruption about 1627 BC and buried in volcanic ash.

Because of the volcanic ash the pottery, furniture and three story buildings with advanced drainage systems were all remarkably well-preserved. Pretty incredible stuff.

For lunch we made a pit stop on Perivolos Beach (aka Black beach) where we walked along the water and chowed on some fine dining (fried feta cheese - my dish of choice on this trip).

We went to the highest point of the island....

And we ended our trip with a wine tasting at Santo Wines....
